2010 - 2011

Hiatus

Hiatus' is a collection of photographs taken mostly between 2010 and 2011 that depict the area surrounding Trecase, located 20 kilometers south of Naples, Italy. During this time, I resided and worked there, owning a B&B and a flower shop. Following the completion of my final year at the art academy, I found myself lacking inspiration and direction. Seeking a change of scenery, I set out to Naples with nothing but a suitcase of clothes and a small 35mm camera. Despite the region's tumultuous history – decades of negligence from the central government, the rise of organized crime after the war, and industries moving to the north of Italy, which have left the area impoverished – these images offer a glimpse into the soul of southern Italy, revealing its remarkable beauty, resilience, and strength.
